Advantages Of Synthetic Oil

Synthetic oils are developed to function as conventional oil, but they are purposely formulated to accomplish particular requirements. The large-scale use of synthetic oil started from the year 1970, and with the increasing acceptance of the oil in various sectors, almost all major oil companies now prepare their own brand of synthetic oils. All these companies spend huge amount every year in their Research and development wings to formulate synthetic oils that can perform even better than the existing products.

Synthetic oils are derived from the traditional crude oil by distillation and refinement. Tailor made chemical reactions are performed for producing the synthetic lubricants. The synthetic oils are artificial or synthetic not meaning that they do not have anything in common with natural oil. The natural constituents found in the original crude oil are also present in the synthetic oil. Characteristically, the high-class synthetic oils make use of a combination of up to 3 disparate base fluids like synthetic esters, alkylated aromatics, and polyalphaolefin (PAO).

Synthetic oil offers considerable performance benefits because of their stability at extreme temperatures. The molecules of synthetic oil can withstand higher engine temperatures because of their better consistency in molecular shape and size. When the molecules of the conventional oil are oxidized or vaporized easily in higher temperature because of their being unstable in nature, synthetic oil molecules remain unaltered.

There are certain brands of synthetic oil, which are able to protect the engines even in more than 400° F. The cars which need fast acceleration like the racers face no trouble running with synthetic oil when the engine temperature reaches up to 290° F. The engine performs efficiently even if that temperature is maintained for a long time. In case of conventional oil, any temperature above 270° F breaks down the molecules and the curs experience sudden jerks.

The key advantage of synthetic oil is the absence of any impurity in it, as they are chemically created. The various materials like sulfur, asphaltic material, and wax are usually present in conventional oils, which can generate varnish as well as sludge buildup and can cause detonation. Unlike the conventional oil the synthetic oil flows well at even lower temperatures because of the absence of wax in it. The viscosity rating in the recent brands of synthetic oil is as low as 0W-30. During the initial start up these synthetic oils flow 7 times faster compared to the traditional 5W-30 motor oil, however at a normal operating temperature function as regular Grade30 oil.

0W-30 synthetic oil can be pumped without any trouble even at -62° F and can flow efficiently in lower temperatures. The conventional oils are typically frozen solid in such low temperatures; therefore, performance of conventional oil can never be compared with that of synthetic oil. The synthetic oils offer lower viscosity change over the time. Lower pour point ensures reaching the oil fast where it needs to be following a cold start.
